Weaving Stories

I write about things that I think are cool or have a strong page presence – characters, atmosphere, and often with supernatural elements. I try not to stick to any one genre. My style is my brand. My Great Work right now is the Occult Britain anthology series (Ride Upon Midnight, Harvest, and Five Suns Over Somerset). The challenge is to work within the ‘rules’ of a genre in such a way that I can push outside it. My motto: every story should have mystery to unravel or inequity to overcome.

My favourite writers are James Lee Burke, Michael Connelly, and Robert Aickman. My favourite genres are horror (nearly anything from the early 20th century) and crime dramas. I have an affinity for the post-war writers but prefer stories with a mystical element. My books are a reflection of that.

I was born in New Zealand and grew up on the east coast of the North Island. I spent my teenage years in Australia, also on the east coast, where I studied and enjoyed the mystique and wildlife of the land and witnessed hundreds of fruit bats blanket tequila sunsets. I travelled the world, studied at a UK University (English and Literature), and then settled down permanently in Europe where I work as a teacher and digitally busk as a writer.
